Looking for the Weekend

Its been a loooong week and I'm really looking forward to the weekend. I've actually been looking for it all week.....
Last weekend was super busy and I'm hoping to relax (me time) a bit more this time around. I see a pool day in my immediate future.....
The trains have been a complete pain in the ass for a while and we know that it's not going to get better anytime soon. Long train rides on super hot days have been very tiring, to say the least. Thank goodness for Netflix and Showmax downloads!

I've been watching Grey's Anatomy for the last three months and I'm finally all caught up with the rest of the world (sort of). I'm just a few episodes behind. I've now moved on to Shameless (British version), which is proving to be difficult to watch in public at times.... (Awkward side glances from fellow commuters). That family is really something else! Game of Thrones was another one that was sooo difficult to watch on the train. (Waiting patiently for the new season to start...)

What are you watching? And what are you up to this weekend?

These people below look like they need a bit of Friday fun. Maybe they're also looking for the weekend?

Questions?

Every now and then I get asked about my train commuter photos. The biggest question is "Do they mind me taking their photo?" and another one is "How do I manage to take these photos without getting caught?" All my train photos are candid, for obvious reasons. Would YOU pose for a photo by a complete stranger? I don't think so.

Well, I mostly hold the phone quite close to me and keep it there long before and long after I have taken the photo. People must think I have major eye problems...

Sometimes I get the perfect shot once off and other times I have time to take a few shots. People with interesting accessories like glasses, hats, scarves, or even a funky hairstyle are the best ones to take photos of. And people doing makeup are the absolute BEST! I always make sure to portray the person in the best way possible. Trust me, there are soooo many photos that have not made it onto my IG, for various reasons.

Over the years I have had a few people come across themselves on my IG/Facebook page and their reactions have been positive, every single time. I have even had a few people commenting that they are waiting for me to take their photo! Also, I have been 'recognised' and greeted on the train by total strangers. (So weird, but pleasant)

I hope this answers a few questions you might have had. There are almost 500 of #TheEverydayCommute photos on my IG account, so head on over there and you might just see a photo of yourself.

Blue Hair, Don't Care...

This was not the first blue haired person I'd seen on the train and I'm pretty sure its not going to be the last either. I love her hair color! I went blue once, but unfortunately the color didn't last very long...

The trains are still extremely delayed and we've heard that its going to take 6 - 8 months to repair damages caused by a truck hitting the booms at the False Bay level crossing. The booms then hit the overhead wires shorting out the signal system for the entire southern line!

There are delays in both directions, adding two extra hours to my already long travelling time...

Sunday Vibes

Its been a busy week (again) so I have simply not had much time to post anything here.

We had tickets to see our very own local, Jeremy Loops, performing at a Kirstenboch Summer Sunset Concert. Check out the line up here.  I make sure to get tickets to one or two of these events each summer. Most of the performers are South African and quite few are from Cape Town. We even have some that are from my hometown. It doesn't get more local than this.

You pack a picnic, some drinks and a picnic blanket and off you go. Everyone finds their spot on the lawn and just chills. It starts at 5.30pm and runs until about 7.30pm, but the gates open quite a bit before, so you can get a good spot if you're early. We always have a good time at these concerts and I think it's the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon/evening. I didn't get a lot of photos but check out this video clip from Facebook. And a rare photo of Tristan and his friend James.

Hello February

February has arrived and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. This month is turning out to be full of surprises and is going to be very busy.
A few social events are lined up (A Jeremy Loops concert in particular) and I'm hoping to squeeze in a beach day or two before summer leaves us. Right now though, I feel like I need another holiday. The trains have been horribly delayed this entire week and commuting has been challenging, to say the least. I hope it gets better next week.

It's a wrap January

January has come and gone in the blink of an eye. It's been full of sunshine, beach days, holidays, family and friends. And of course, back to work and school. I'm hoping the rest of year does not fly by as quickly as January did. I'm also clinging for dear life to these summer days!
